Tutorial Tuesday: How To Create A Crochet Panda Bag!

Hello there and Happy Tuesday to you!  Here's an oldie, but fun pattern that I had constructed for myself many moons ago #throwback post here  and I thought I'd share how I created this purse!

The Ingredients
1 SKEIN Each of White and Black // Red Heart Super Saver Yarn: Medium 4 Weight: No-Dye-Lot Solids: 7 oz (198g), 
Yardage: No-Dye-Lot Solids: Approx.364 yards (333 m) / 100% Acrylic
 1 yard of fabric
metal snap buttons
H/8 5.00 MM Crochet Hook
Yarn Needle
Craft Scissors


 Abbreviations / Stitches Utilized
sc=single crochet
hdc=half double crochet
dc=double crochet
tch[s]=turning chain[s]
sts=stitches
ss= slip stitch
ch=chain

The Pattern
*You will repeat this Step TWICE. Creating both the FRONT as well as the Back piece to construct the bag.

STEP ONE
Chain 6, then insert your hook into the first chain stitch you made, forming a ring.
YO, then draw the yarn through the stitch and through the loop on your hook.
CH 1, Insert your hook into the center ring and YO and draw the yarn through the center ring.

RND 1: SC into all of the STS for the entire round, 8 STS total, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 2: DC into all of the STS TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 3: DC into the first ST once, then into the following ST DC TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 4: DC into the first TWO STS once, then into the following ST DC TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 5: DC into the first THREE STS once, then into the following ST DC TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 6: DC into the first FOUR STS once, then into the following ST DC TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 7: DC into the first  FIVE STS once, then into the following ST DC TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 8: HDC into all of the STS for the entire round, 8 STS total, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 9: SC into all of the STS for the entire round, 8 STS total, at the end of the round, SS to complete final work.

11 inches length and width

Sew the two circles together, utilizing the yarn sewing needle and a strand of white yarn, leaving a 6.5 inches wide opening.


STEP TWO
Creating these pieces using your black yarn and utilizing your yarn sewing needle and a strand of black yarn to secure placements.

Creating the eyes: Using your black yarn to create TWO oval rounds. 
CH 8
Single crochet (sc) in the second chain (ch) from the hook, then sc 8.
Crochet 3 sc in the last chain. Now rotate the work since you'll be working along the bottom of the foundation chain.
Complete sc, 2 sc in the last chain at the position of the first sc of the previous round. Your first round is complete .
Round 2: Crochet 2 sc in the first stitch of the previous round; sc 4, 2 sc in each of the next three stitches, sc 4, 2 sc in the next 2 stitches. 

PLACEMENT: Placing them at Round 5, like an inverting V shape. 3 inches apart.

Creating the nose: Using your black yarn: 
Chain 6, then insert your hook into the first chain stitch you made, forming a ring.
YO, then draw the yarn through the stitch and through the loop on your hook.
CH 1, Insert your hook into the center ring and YO and draw the yarn through the center ring.

RND 1: SC into all of the STS for the entire round, 8 STS total, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.
RND 2: DC into all of the STS TWICE for the entire round, at the end of the round, SL ST to continue work.

PLACEMENT: Placing them at Round 1, in the middle.
Using your black yarn and yarn sewing needle. to create the nose detail, sewing from the inside, from Round 1, to Round 2, then from Round 2 loop through the stitches 4 times to create the "mouth.

Creating the Ears: Using your black yarn:

PLACEMENT: Placing them at Round 8, approximately 3 inches apart.


STEP THREE
Cutting and measuring out the fabric circles, align the fabric with the crocheted rounds and sew needle and thread to secure.
As well as adding the metal snap buttons to the opening of the purse.

STEP FOUR
CH 136 // 48 inches length or to desired length
R1-R3:  SC into all of the STS for all of the rows, turn work at the end to continue. At final Row 3, SS to complete final work.

 PLACEMENT: Placing the straps at the side of the purse.
